How do I improve my website conversion rate?

Your website conversion rate is simply the percentage of visitors who take the action you want them to take.

That might be making an enquiry, requesting a quote, booking a call or buying something.

If plenty of people visit your website but very few take action, there are usually things you can improve.

1. Make your message clearer

People can't take action if they don't understand what you're offering.

Your homepage should quickly explain:

What do you do? Who is it for? And how can you help?

Clarity comes before conversion.

2. Give visitors a reason to act

Don't just tell people what you do. Explain why it matters to them.

What problem do you solve?

What outcome can they expect?

What makes choosing you a good decision?

Give visitors a reason to think:

“This is exactly what I'm looking for.”

3. Use clear calls to action

Make it obvious what someone should do next.

Request a Quote is usually more useful than Contact Us.

Book a Free Consultation is more specific than Get in Touch.

Your call to action should tell people what will happen when they click.

4. Build trust

People are taking a risk when they contact a business they've never used before.

Reviews, testimonials, case studies, examples of your work and relevant experience can reduce that uncertainty.

Don't make people search for proof that you're good at what you do.

5. Remove unnecessary obstacles

Look at your website as if you've never seen it before.

Can you find what you need?

Is the navigation straightforward?

Does it work well on mobile?

Is the contact process simple?

Every unnecessary step creates another opportunity for someone to leave.

6. Test what's working

Don't rely entirely on opinion.

Look at your analytics and enquiries to understand what visitors are doing and which pages are performing well.

Then make improvements and see what happens.

Small changes can sometimes make a surprisingly big difference.

Conversion isn't about tricks

Improving conversion rates isn't about manipulating people into buying something.

It's about making it easier for the right people to understand your offer, trust your business and take the next step.

And you don't necessarily need a completely new website to achieve that.

At Orange Hippo, we look at websites through the eyes of potential customers to identify what's getting in the way of enquiries and where there are opportunities to improve.

Our 60-minute Website Audit gives you a practical view of what's working, what's not and what we'd change.

Or start with our free 10-minute website health check and we'll tell you the three things we'd change first.
